Welcome to Australia's Best Seafood Retailer. Seafood Business of the Year: The award for Seafood Business of the Year was presented to She Sells Seafood at the 5th Australian Seafood Industry Awards in Melbourne on 15 April 2010. This award recognises the range and quality of our product, together with our excellence in innovation, marketing and contribution to the industry. The award should also put to rest the myth that the only place to get good quality fresh seafood is along our coastline. In fact our proximity to the Melbourne Wholesale Fish Market gives us, and our customers, access to a fantastic range of seafood, sourced principally from Victorian and Tasmanian waters. Through the Melbourne market we are also able to source specialist products from further afield, such as prawns from SA and Queensland, Sydney Rock oysters and wild barramundi from the Top End. We are also Castlemaine's reigning Retail Business of the Year. We offer an exciting range of fresh Australian seafood and hand-made meals (including gluten-free) from Wednesday to Saturday each week. The staff and the decor are great too - in fact, we have made retailing of fresh fish into something of an artform. Sushi Workshops: Our sales of freshly made seafood sushi have been a runaway success. Now come our hands-on sushi workshops for those wanting to emulate our quality and style in their own kitchens. Workshops will be held at She Sells Seafood on Monday evenings, with a maximum of four participants. Check out all the details under our Sushi Supplies category. Scallops and Oysters: The Tasmanian scallop season has just commenced for 2010, so call in soon to enjoy the best of Tasmania's scallop harvest. For all of those oyster afficionados out there we also have our favourite Sydney Rock Oysters from Pambula River back in stock. These are available either freshly shucked or unshucked, and are guaranteed to give your taste buds a big treat. Our fish quote of the day - "fish lives are full of swims and rousabouts" (for more fishy sayings please check our link under Trading Locations) Fish Consumption: Some very interesting research from the University of Wollongong has been reported on in the Sunday Age. The data shows that only 6 percent of Australian children are meeting the suggested dietary intakes of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, and that only one child in 10 eats fish. The researchers suggest this low intake places children at risk of heart disease, asthma, ADHD and retarded brain development. So the message is clear: feeding children two fish meals a week would "dramatically improve their immediate and long-term health prospects". The report of this research can be found at: http://www.theage.com.au/national/children-miss-out-on-real-brain-food-20091114-ifo4.html New Treats from the SSS Kitchen: Our range of hand-made meals is ever-increasing and ever-more popular. Recently we have added a tuna pasta bake and a tuna rice bake to our range - well worth trying for a tasty seafood meal the whole family can enjoy. Our Salmon Parcels (in both French and Asian styles) are also wonderful for a quick and very tasty meal. Ask to try one of these on your next visit. Our very own fish cookbook, Hook Line and Dinner, has been favourably reviewed in the Weekend Australian, Vogue Entertaining and Travel magazine and in the Epicure supplement of the Age newspaper. Along with great recipes, it is full of practical advice and helpful hints, not to mention wonderful illustrations by Rhyll Plant. Many people have been back to purchase additional copies for family and friends (get all the info from the Publications section of our website).
Did you know? 99 percent of our planet's living space is in the oceans (because of their great depth). The health of the oceans is vital to the human diet (not to mention to our business). So let's look after our waterways and our seas. Our regular trading hours are: 10am to 6pm Wednesday - Friday 9am to 1pm Saturday located at 396 Barker Street, Castlemaine tel 5472 1752
